إنتشرت القباب بشكل واسع في #الوادي خاصة في منتصف القرن التاسع عشر حتى سُميت وادي سوف بمدينة الألف قبة وقبة لاعتماد الناس في بناء بيوتهم على القبة التي أصبحت تشكل الطابع المعماري الخاص بوادي سوف. ولهذا النوع من القباب مزايا مقصودة فرضته طبيعة المنطقة، وذلك لأن شكل القبة يساعد على تبعثر أشعة الشمس المسلطة عليها، وتخفيف حدتها وعلى منع تراكم ما تأتي به الرياح من تراب فوقها. كما أن تجويف القبة داخل البيت يوفر مزيدا من الهواء ويُلطف درجة الحرارة فيها.

The man was running away with the rest, and selling his papers for a shilling each as he ran–a grotesque mingling of profit and panic.
